It is traditional when putting together wedding invitations to use
both an inner and an outer envelope. In this article, I will discuss the
 different procedures with each envelope.
The outer envelope of a wedding invitation is the one that will actually take a stamp and be
sent in the mail. It will therefore have the full mailing address of the
person to whom it is being address. Note that, except for couples,
separate adults should each receive their own wedding invitation and
their own outer envelope. For instance, if you are addressing it to two
sisters living together, each should get her own envelope.
On the
front envelope, you should put the names of all people you intend to
invite except minor children. Minor children are not listed on the outer
envelope at all (don't worry; you'll get to them on the inner
envelope). The name on the front envelope should be the person's formal
title, not simply the first name. For example, the title should be
addressed to "Mr. John Smith", not simply "John Smith".
